Patson Hill Farm is situated on the north facing slopes of Patson Hill just beyond the western extremity of what is known locally as the Blackmore Vale. There are only 45 acres or 18.2 hectares of land so people aren’t sure whether to call it a small farm or a small holding! But, due to the undulating lie of the land and being unable to actually see it’s limits from the farmhouse and cottages, it seems somewhat larger.

There is much activity over the course of the year. Patson Hill is a traditional family-run farm where we rear pasture fed livestock on an organic basis to produce lamb from pure or cross bred Jacob sheep, beef from Dexter cows (a small breed reputed to have the highest meat to bone ratio of any beef animal), turkeys (white & bronze), and more recently – pork from Oxford Sandy & Black, Saddleback or Gloucester Old Spot pigs, all relatively rare breeds. All our produce is sold by word-of-mouth, with no need to advertise, to a lucky list of appreciative friends and acquaintances. However, while you are here it is always worth asking if we have any produce available to purchase and eat during your stay or take home frozen in a cool bag (bring one with you).

Alongside the above there are horses, our own as well as a few on livery. Children in particular find it exciting to be in close proximity to the animals and sometimes may even help with feeding tasks. Each Spring there is the added joy of watching newborn lambs at play. All year round, Rupert our jack russell and Molly the dalmatian, are on hand as a constant source of entertainment to all ages. Some children would say they are our greatest marketing asset!

There is open access to the farmland for visitors to enjoy walks through the fields and woods. The Monarch's Way – a famous walking path goes right past your cottage door!

Solar Photovoltaic Electricity Generation at Patson Hill Farm!

Photovoltaic energy is of great advantage to the environment because the radiated energy we receive from the sun is transformed directly into electrical energy without any combustion process and without producing any pollution. We at Patson Hill have recently installed a 10kWH system of PV panels feeding power to each cottage as well as our farmhouse.
